About
CHRIS MICHAELS, PH.D.
LICENSED PSYCHOLOGIST (OR #3185)
My interest in psychology began early, fueled by my natural curiosity for the human condition and my keen ability to observe and intuit the unspoken in others. Becoming a psychologist has been a professional calling, allowing me to hone my natural strengths and channel them into a rewarding professional journey. I have a true passion for psychotherapy and strive to bring that passion to every therapy relationship.
In my clinical work I am integrative, employing a variety of therapeutic approaches. The foundations of my work are influenced by interpersonal, psychodynamic, and humanistic-existential schools of psychotherapy. I emphasize building contextual understandings of client challenges with a style that is experiential, process-driven, and highly collaborative. My therapeutic interactions are characterized by warmth, authenticity, directness, compassion, humor, and spontaneity to create an environment supportive of change and growth. All of my work comes from a social justice and multicultural lens through which I actively honor the dynamic, intersectional, and diverse nature of the whole person.
I am a generalist by training and enjoy working with a variety of concerns. I have worked and trained in university counseling centers, community mental health clinics, integrated healthcare settings, and sexual trauma recovery settings. If you would like to have a conversation with me to determine if I might be the right therapist for you at this time, please consider getting in contact so we can schedule a free initial consultation.
